Bit of a thread resurrection here - I've had a proper look at it but can't see how the new wire would connect into the existing sensor adapter part. I've taken the blue sensor adapter part out but it doesn't seem to split down. Do I just force a wire into it till it meets the connection point or do I need to buy a new one?
Hoping all I really need to get is some 12v wire out of maplins
No temperature display
Re: No temperature display
Where's it broken Kev?
Does it just need a new piece of wire soldered in?

Re: No temperature display
yeah it's just the wire thats broke, I thought the adapter would open up to allow a new wire in but doesn't seem to. Just force the wire through into the right bit?
Re: No temperature display
The plug consists of 4 parts:
The plug body.
The actual wire.
The crimped terminal contact (the shiny thing you can see when looking from the sensor side.
The weather boot that fits over the wire to close off the back of the plug from water ingress.
You need to release the crimp terminal from the housing. Usually this is a question of inserting a very small screwdriver or bit of stiff wire up next to the contact from the inside of the plug. The wire or screwdriver depresses a small barb that then allows the wire, boot and crimp contact to be withdrawn from the back. Then cut back the wire, refit the boot and apply a new crimp terminal, or use the mini kit that was referenced a couple of posts back.
You can source the crimp contact easily enough - these things are known as "Junior Power Timer" connectors for some reason and you can get the crimp terminals from, for example, polevault.co.uk, part number 3-7210/10. They also sell the reinforced over boots, e.g. 20911 or 20901 that provide better strain relief and help stop this happening again.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: No temperature display
Cheers, ordering new over boot and crimp contact today so should have it sorted for thursday.
Fitted brake buffer pads yesterday to stop the rattling and put some of the corrosion block on suspension collars at same time ( will last about a week probably) Cleaned the air filter which is going back on today. Happy days.
** Cleaning the foam air filter is definitely worth it***
It had a lot of crap in it and the car now seems much keener to rev and generally more responsive.
