For some reason I bought one of a chap on ebay I had bought some other stuff off and trusted. A nice shiny Teng one. Change the wheels on the BMW today for winter rubber shod rims and was getting midly excited about torquing them up after researching the Nm etc. Ah 1/2 inch, all my sockets are smaller, arse.

Does one buy a converter or some more sockets ? I think I asked the question before about why have 1/2 and is it 3/8ths but cannot remember.

Think you did  . You can buy 1/2" to 3/8" convertors, and ones that will do the other way. I'd say you buy both, can't have enough tools.

I think the different socket mount sizes relate to the max torque performance of the tools - eg, 3/8" won't shift stuff before breaking which 3/4" would take in its stride etc.

I'm always worried going down a size, especially if your using the wrench to slacked ie easy to snap the socket and damage your wing as the wrench suddenly moves. You might be better buying a set of 1/2" wheel sockets, they have a plastic outer £20, also avoids scratching the alloys.

I think I got mine a years ago from screwfix but can't really remember

I've snapped a convertor in the past, didn't take much as I remember...

S1 wheel nuts are I think 66lbft; 3/8th will be fine for that... unless the tools themselves are made of chocolate, there won't be an issue.

I've been off the scale of a 500lb ft torque meter driving through a 3/8" drive in the past, was ok the first few times.

Any excuse to post Cannonball Run clips. Are Moore, JC & Reynolds the only remaining big stars ? :(
