Took the drivers side wheel arch liner off and every thing looked perfect as per attached photographs, the adjusting screws were finger tight. To be honest I was most impressed with the condition of the adjusters. Nearside exactly the same.

So much so for a clam off job !!!!!!

Totally pissed off with Carden Motors, and I'll be letting them have both barrels right after they issue my pass certificate.

It really lets you see how spoiled we are with the service we get from Craig and MMC. I thought it would be pretty safe as it was just an MOT but I won't be going near them again.

a trivial simple job blown up into a major issue with a ridiculously inflated bill...

I wonder if the factory changed them to galvanised studs at some stage late in S1 production, as I changed headlamp units a couple of times on the Shugmobile (one of the last S1s) and I don't ever remember the threads being at all rusty...

PS - they should be finger tight, as it's the springs that hold the headlamp in place and running the plastic wingnut up and down the thread is the beam adjustment.

good question, can't say I have ever come across them so bad they won't move...

I have had the base bracket rust to collapse
