I changed my exhaust without the use of a jack also.

My advice is to be careful when jacking the car up. - i always put mine on axle stands to work on it, jacking each side up in turn
BUT!!!!!

one day, i was jacking up from the jacking point under the passenger side sill, and didn't notice that there was a wee stone just infront of the wheels of my hydraulic jack.

SO -

as i jacked up the side, the jack wanted to roll forward a couple of inches as the car rose, but couldn't, because of the stone!

result, it slipped off the jack - big rip in my sill, and i (who was at the back putting in an axel stand under the rear jacking point) got a big scare!

no fingers lost.

no real damage done (the axle stand was in place enough to stop the car falling) but it's going to be a real bitch to fix it! -
the coolant pipe inside the sill is slightly bent now, but no leaks ! - PTL!

by the way, the scisor jack at the right side of the picture was a "run to the car and get the other jack" emergency measure to let me get the axle stand properly placed! - the c**ts on SELOC simply ripped into a rant about jacking with a scisor jack when i posted about this at the time!

anyway - be very careful with jacking the car up! - axle stands are great, but things can slip - even if you're being carefull!

Oooh nasty!

Been there, nearly done that!

I was lucky and only bent the lip under the sill, fortunatly my paranoia at working under cars means there were 2 axle stands and a tyre under the car so the jack shifted but the load was redistrubuted safely with a bang which knocked years off my life!

I'm now rapidly developing that paranoia!!

I was in under the back of the car placing the rear axel stand at the time - nearly touched cloth over that one!!!

I think I'll go for a DIY repair (been reading up on it searching through old SELOC posts) - should be ok

Repair on the sill is gonna be difficult because they don't come off in one piece and need replacing if removed. :(

Sticker? Duct tape?

A cosmetic repair should do down there but could be tricky to get it to stick!

yep - it's gonna be tricky!

I'll probably screw some strips of aluminium in behind it, then sort out a basically cosmetic repair over that. - should work ok, but it'll doubtless be skinned knuckles time!
