putting sticky 195s on the front will reduce the cars tendancy to understeer.
175s are used to make the car easier to drive and to make the S2 less tail happy when compared with the S1, hence safer. Not sure you'll notice much of a difference visually though.
Tyre wise - AD07's would be my pick if you aren't going to the track
Toyo t1r's - cheaper, and better wet wetaher tyre - used to run them as winter tyres. 1k miles will be needed to run them in though.
r888's and A048 are track tyres - not much point if you car is only seeing road use
175 to 195 upgrade possible?
Front left lock up is a comon thing - even Lotus motorsport can't dial it out with the standard suspension.
AD07's are a great all round tyre - happy on both road and track.
I've had 195 toyo's on the elise and then went down to 185's which were much better - I put it down to having less "muffin top".
Far and away though the AD07's in 175 are much better than toyo's in either guise.
I wouldn't put wide stickies on standard rims though - you may just pull the tyre off the rim.

Have to say, I'm with Simon on this. The S2 was engineered with a 175 tyre in mind and more doesn't always = better. You'll suffer from greater unsprung weight (damper has to work harder to keep the wheel/tyre package under control) and it will tramline more.jj wrote:You must have some seriously sensitive hands, or a masters degree in "steering feel" then
To get the better grip afforded by the 195, you'd want to go for different wheels (to keep the sidewalls more in the comfort zone) and geo setup.
