Suspension : Steering :Blog
Same way as the S2 one - just it more prone to crossthreading (but you already know that)
As for the quick rack - I think the steering on the elise is pretty well weighted and wouldn't have to cock about with it just for the sake - anything more and I think you would have one fidgity car on your hands.

The Hub carrier is completely different you cannot unscre thye bottom ball joint as the bolt fouls on the hub carrier. there is a plate bolted to the bottom and it may be a case of remove that first. or at least loosen it but I dont want to unbolt the wrong thing in the wrong order and give myself a nightmare and be unable to get the thing off

I've removed both in the same method.
There are two cap headed bolts that go through the top and contains the bar that connects to the steering rack - there are shims in here which controls the camber angle.
At the bottom there's a ball joint plinth, the nut for the ball joint sits inside the alloy hub but there is a slot to allow a spanner into it.
However, it's much simpler to undo the 4x 17mm hex headed bolts and split the plinth from the hub carrier.
The procedure I use is to loosen off the 4x 17mm hex headed bolts but still leave them slightly more than finger tight. Now undo the 2 x cap headed bolts noting the location of them (one is longer than the other) and the correct number of shims installed) Once you have removed the cap headed bolts you have effectivly removed the hub carried from the steering arm and top wishbone - now that the hub is more moveable you can undon the 4 bolts at the bottom - you will need to rotate the hub in various ways to stop the bolts from bottoming on the bottom wishbone.
When refitting the plinth make sure you apply duralac to it and also a thread sealant to the cap headed bolts to prevent bi metalic corrosion.

Edit: if you still have the brake disc shields installed you will need to bend these out of the road or use a wobble drive on your socket - I bent and removed the ones on the S1

Update, really for my own benifit.
Have stripped out the wishbones on 1 side of the car ! I am struggling to get an exploded view of the steering rack from Titan motorsport just to make sure I am ordering the correct part, but the track rod ends come on wednesday.
What would look cooler painting the wishbones Audi Silver or Rover White ? i'm not going to buy paint thats just what I have lying around.
