Come on boys, do you really think after all the sweat and tears that Mike has been through, that he will let you put in the last piece of the jigsaw and steal his wee moment of glory.

Chancers the both of you

Steve.
Hardly the last piece of the puzzle but the jobs list is getting shorter.

Cheers for the offers and sorry I couldn't reply sooner but was mega busy all trip and really haven't given the car much thought. Home now though so will get back to it soon enough.

With regard to the clocks, it is a wiring change that is causing the problem so rather than butcher the new loom in the hope of resolving it I have opted to fit a new set of 06-07 model year clocks which were picked up at a much reduced rate. Once the car is all done I'll get the mileage wound forward to match the old set.

Current job list looks like this:
Fit ECU and new clocks
Fit new front seats
Install rear bulk head trim panel. Bit of a bugger this one now the harness bar is in.
Finish installing the boot lid release mechanism. This has proved to be considerable more difficult than first thought. getting it lined up and at the correct angle is key.
Install last upgraded engine mount. Been putting this off many times as it looks like a bit of a pig to do.
Last of the fluids into the car
New anti roll bar to fit
Fit the one remaining AC pipe and get the system recharged and tested.
Send the Ohlins to plans motorsport to have the longer elise/exige rods fitted rather than the current 2-11 ones.
Geo the car
Fit front clam.
New front disc's ( calling Stu, you have PM)
Bleed brakes and clutch.

DRIVE :)

graeme, if I don't then i'll need to add a note in the service history book about new clocks fitted. Apparently it's quite easy to get done.

Good effort!

Sounds like the sort of "to do" list that would keep most elise owners busy for a year or two... I suspect with your abilities and commitment you'll have it done in no time at all. Homeward straight!

Nice build.

Instead of having the Ohlins rebuilt, why dont you use the rest of the 2-11 parts which will allow you run the car lower than stock? You only need the 2 front upper wishbones, 2 front upper damper brackets and the steering control arms...

It's cheaper to change the rods in the dampeners than to change that amount of bits. Also I would then be limited to a max ride height of about 120mm which may not be high enough for the Elise. Normally they S2's run 140mm, Exige run 130mm. Running much lower than that would lead to clearance issues with the front wheels given that I'll be running exige and msport wheels which are considerably wider than the 5 1/2" fronts that came off.

I've been running the full 2-11 kit on my 111R using 240R rims and ride heights of 105f/115r with no problem at all (thats using the std 2-11 80f/105r spring rates).

IIRC it not just new rods you will need but also new end eyes and obviously all 4 dampers will need to be rebuilt with new oil etc..

Best person to speak to would be Russ at Mick Garner Racing, he builds and supplies the factory with all the Ohlins dampers for Exige, Elise and the 2-11 and will know exactly what is needed to convert them over to the correct spec (01226 240099).

It may be a little more cost to put the 2-11 kit on but for a fast road/track car i'd be spending the extra.. Youve already got the most expensive bit being the 2-11 spec dampers themselves.

I thought that running that low I would get fowling of the front clam running the wider cup front wheels. IIRC they are 7" wide fronts so changed form initially going to be running with 2-11 front end to sticking with Exige settings. However if they do clear the clam which I am going to check once it goes back on then I may revert and go with plan A, which was to change the top wishbones and steering control arms along with the rack riser plates form the 2-11.

You should be absolutely fine provided you dont go mad and set the ride heights too low at the front.

You will also need to replace the 2 front upper damper mounting brackets for the 2-11 items.

Going to a slight tangent, what is different about the 2-11 upper front wishbones & steering control arms? Assume the steering arms allow the track rod ends to locate on the lower side?

Just thinking the LSS S1's run 100/110mm ride but only have a rack raiser plate.

The top ball joint angle is different on the 2-11. Stops the ball joint binding with the lower ride height. Steering control arms and rack riser plates have the same effect for the the steering arms. Dampener mounts move the upper mounting point slightly higher.
