As in Maxsport?

No, no no no nonononono!!!!!

I finally gave up on them as no 2 tyres coming out of the moulds are the same and the last ones I had were tupperware. If you want a soft tyre, spend the money on 48 softs. You'd be better on T1Rs.

If you're spending big money, don't skimp on the only bit that actually contacts the road - madness.

The Khumo V70 tyre is the one of choice that's available in elise sizes. I'm running the softest compound 48's at present and still couldn't get enough heat in the tyres by the end of the run.

Providing I find enough cash down the back of the sofa this season I'll be on the ACB10's

for the Elise V70's, you will find it difficult to get hold of soft compound 48's anyway. Checked out Graeme Bremners after a run a Kames and his V70's were toasty after only 90secs on track, definitely the way ahead. BTW softs on the front mediums on the rear.

I've had three sets of double yellows now and they were reasonably good for me. The blue's are the softest they do. As I already have a set of rears

Kames not really representative, my Toyo T1-Rs would go off before the end of a run.
(albeit road tyre but you get the idea and only 156bhp)

What about the soft R888's?

the soft 888's are special order only and I couldn't get a delivery date for them. Will try again now Christmas has passed.

For the series the Khumu Tyres seem to be best choice.

And you think your luck is still in? :)

I've had 5 or 6 sets over the years and perhaps 2 of those have been okay.

Just on my way over to see my tyre supplier for a price on soft 888's.

Will ask about the Khumo's as well.

Had a look at the 2009 regs.. the Maxsport RB5 are not on the list of 1a or 1b tyres.. and it states that any remould must be on the list.. not on list, cant use them...

So its Khumos or 888's then..

Tut.. spare set of fresh rears available if you still want them.. seem to be a reasonably good set...

John

I used Maxsports in 2003 and 2005, they were not on the list and they were not impressed that they were re-moulds, but along with the bare feet I think they had just given up on me.

However they must be more strict with the book now.

tut

ps blues are too soft for me but interested in rears if they are yellows.

Finnaly got to the bottom of the brakes issue, it looks to be a collapsed bearing and out of true hub. Elise parts have both front uprights and has "test built" the brakes and found the same binding problem Ali had. Checked with a second set of disks and the same problem., funny that one side is fine and the other isnt..

The bearing on the duff side has failed, allowing the flange to move out of alignment, hence the binding..

The end result is that Geary is building up both complete sets using new steel mounting flanges and bearings to make sure they are spot on. They will then be sent back to Ali for refit to the car.

Result.. :thumbsup

Nice simple fault then.

Glad Geary spotted it.

Hope you get it back soon John. :thumbsup
