Post 1 updated.
Jobs list now looks like:
Finish installing the boot lid release mechanism. This has proved to be considerable more difficult than first thought. getting it lined up and at the correct angle is key.
Install last upgraded engine mount. Been putting this off many times as it looks like a bit of a pig to do.
Last of the fluids into the car
New anti roll bar to fit. Here now with it's new bushes.
AC system recharged and tested.
Decide what I'm doing with the suspension.
Geo the car
Fit front clam.
Make my mind up about brakes, too 4 pot or not that is the question?
Bleed brakes and clutch.

Re: 111R rebuild
Is there big advantages to be had on an Elise with 4 pot brakes?
Re: 111R rebuild
I think it depends on weight. On an S1, definitely not. Will be interesting to see where Mike's ends up with the supercharger and intercooler weight. Given the possible pace of it, if it's going to be used on track, there is an argument for...Dominic wrote:Is there big advantages to be had on an Elise with 4 pot brakes?

211 doesn't need them but I think an Exige does, best person to ask will be Ali C as he's had both.

Re: 111R rebuild
That's not a bad idea Shug. Might see if I Can borrow a set of scales and weigh the car first to get an idea of how much it has picked up and then decide.Shug wrote:I think it depends on weight. Re: 111R rebuild
I had the two pots on the last car with 295mm AP bells & rotors and CL pads and I don't think the 4 pots on the current car give me anything more than bigger bills!

Re: 111R rebuild
Just a quick update on this. I had a change of heart regarding the suspension so the Ohlins are now sold and a shinny new set of Nitron 40mm trackday pro's are on order. Brake disc's will be 295mm alloy bells on the front and standard rears. If this proves to be not enough then there is the option to switch to 308mm disc's and 4 pots if needed. Boot lock is still proving to be a lot harder than first thought, for some reason I just can't get it to line up properly. Might end up using a boot catch so a visit to the local scrappy's might be in order.
More to follow shortly but busy with Scotty's S1 as well.

Re: 111R rebuild
Hi Mike,
Given you're not shy of some cutting up and fabricating you could also consider adding some proper brake ducts to the fronts - the 4-pots obviously have more stopping/heat dissipation, but the available stopping power is almost always going to be limited by the front tyres .... so you might get 9/10 of the benefit of the 4-pot and larger disk by fitting working brake ducts instead.
Will it be on the road this year ... and how long will you keep it once done!
Cheers,
Robin

...and without the downside of worse brake balance...

Re: 111R rebuild
Should be finished and on the road next time home. Spanner check, geo and MOT at MMC. Just a few loose ends to finish off and car will be finished.
No idea how long I'll keep it, depends on how it drives. If it's good it'll stay and if it isn't ............
