Project V6 Elise
Re: Project V6 Elise
Looking good as usual Paul.. Any chance in hell Dan's S/C kit will fit? I assume no due its mounting location on the front of the engine..?
Kev, I'll need to get a look at this once all finshed and you've had fun with it, just because your in my neck of the woods (take a ticket, get in line he says..). I've been toying with the idea of some of the GM V6's which are compatible with the VX gearbox.. I digress...

Hi Ross, yes i think there will be space for that SC, there is a good gap where it could run, and the 1mz TRD unit would also fit too.

Re: Project V6 Elise
Hi Paul - which radiator did you select? Is it a single core or a double core rad?
I'm only asking as I just fitted one of these to my K-Series Elise due to failure of the OEM unit &someday may want to do a conversion.

Hi Alex, Paul fitted the upgraded one from Elise-shop, http://www.elise-shop.com/aluminium-hig ... anguage=en, so no real difference from the Hangar111 one you fittedAlex 111s wrote:Hi Paul - which radiator did you select? Is it a single core or a double core rad?

Might be worth dropping Craig at MMC a e-mail and asking how much the Lotus triple pass radiator costs (same as the Elise parts one).

Re: Project V6 Elise
Can I ask what your doing about upgrading the suspension to cope with the extra weight?
"Here for a good time not a long time"
Re: Project V6 Elise
There is only a 50kg (roughly) increase over stock which the standard suspension would easily cope with, but this car has had a suspension upgrade anyway. There is never any need to upgrade the suspension on any other car we fit the V6 to, it's a very light engine compared to some V6 engines.
Re: Project V6 Elise
Paul does that include the gearbox, all the fabrication ect ect it would be nice to see a total car weight figure , as I expect being an elise most prospective buyers would be asking thisWoodsport wrote:There is only a 50kg (roughly) increase over stock which the standard suspension would easily cope with, but this car has had a suspension upgrade anyway. It may be worth you doing a real scale weigh in whilst you still have the car ?
bob
ps what mpg do these engines do ie tank range ?

Re: Project V6 Elise
My weights are estimations based on other conversions we have done and does include the gearbox, certainly the 2gr that MWR put into an Elise weighs a good 40kg more (with E153 gearbox too) than a 1mz with S54 package and they say they have no issues with that extra weight.
I don't have any access to a weighbridge, i'll leave that to Kev when he gets the chance.
The 1mz will return 20-25mpg with mixed driving, but that can drop to 15mpg when you open it up everywhere, but likewise some owners have seen 30-35mpg on motorway runs and these were all heavier cars than the Elise.

Re: Project V6 Elise
if its only 40kg then it should be fine for the road and the odd trackday.
Really looking forward to seeing/hearing the car when it gets back up to Aberdeen

I see 25mpg on a spirited Hoon.
Did see 30 once but that was 60mph Motorway for 250miles

Re: Project V6 Elise
My Honda S1 did 43mpg on a run down to Donington. 75-80 tuts all the way.
It's a shame there wasn't the opportunity to get the car on the cornerweight scales before and after the conversion. I did it on my S1 when I stuck the Honda in. Didn't change anything else and it was 16kg heavier afterwards.
It will always be a bit of a guess if it's weighed afterwards as standard S2 weights vary greatly.

Re: Project V6 Elise
If there's that much variation then the before doesn't really matter does it?
Definitely get it done after though and a decent power run, then you know what you're starting with

Re: Project V6 Elise
Quite the opposite. When you're selling a product to weight-obsessives like the average Elise owner, an accurate figure on how much weight the conversion adds is a useful thing to have in the sales blurb. That way, the interwebs don't have more hearsay to 'debate', like was the case with early Honda installs.OlberJ wrote:If there's that much variation then the before doesn't really matter does it?
