WD40, that'll be fine ... is that a hole in the subframe above the two new-ish bolts? Looks regular shape, so perhaps it's meant to be there ....

Cheers,
Robin

Something old...something new....looks like they have beefed it up a bit and the space is bigger.

woody wrote: Bob, how did your subframe fare the incident? Is it still straight, damaged, or damaged around the toe-link/wishbone mount area? Surely Geary's (relatively) weaker bars will have helped protect that area from damage by failing first?
the subframe is f*cked, the rear wishbone mounting point has moved out about 1 cm.
I don't think that the toe-links have made much of a difference to that, main forces came from the bottom wishbone (and that was very bent as well)
both mounting points of the lower wishbone are bent, so subframs will be renewed and at the front it is the bracket that is mounted to the chassis ( fortunately not the chassis itself)
I think that if you want to prevent a lot of damage in a shunt like this you should not put the 160 wheels on your car, all other Lotus wheels would have shattered into many pieces, these 160 wheels are cracked and bent.
but then the body would have been much more damaged (that has just a scratch now)

I am sure Dan would be better to advise than me but my car has rubber boots over the top of the joint - they are not sealed as I noticed they were there the other day (not sure if they are meant to be sealed?) but they seem to do a good job of keeping the bits in there lubed.

JJ,

The new one have rubber boots fitted, and look like a good idea. (I've just refitted my old ones, until my new toe-rods arrive. )

The boots just fit over the rose joints (with fairy liquid and swear words - think reverse birth) I don't think they arrive fitted - but it's a fun job :)

I clearly don't share your penchant for putting on heavy duty rubber whilst my hands are covered in lubricant.
