she runs, it was the inertia switch after all.

oh and it was hiden underneath a mountain of wiring.

big thanks to everyone who helped and gave up their time.

slighty worried why it went off in the first place though.

I suppose they can just trip if they get enough shuggling - it's all about the type of bump, or maybe it's worn out in some way - I've never actually taken one apart to see how it does what it does. I would guess you'll get one from a scrapper easily enough, should it pop again ...

Fingers crossed it won't happen again, though.

Cheers,
Robin

Robin, I am annoyed with myself that I did not point Graeme straight away to the inertia switch and fuel pump fuse.

It is something that is easy to check, and I have had both happen to me at least twice, with the same symptoms. When we replaced the rear subframe on N1 she would not start afterwards. Craig checked everything, but could not work out why. It was just luck that when I threw the old one on the tip, I noticed a bracket and rubber cap riveted on, chivved it off, connected it up, and voila. Craig was most impressed.

Will remember next time(hopefully).

I remember my fuel pump fuse went on the shed once. It was on FF6, coming down off a mountain somewhere...was the stop at the lavender shop for those on the trip. :D

I parked under a shady tree and propped open the boot with a roof spar while Lawrence set about the the diagnostics. Strangely the fuse had mechanically fractured rather than blown - maybe a combination of the current, heat and vibration??? Anyway, a new one had us on our way after sampling the produce and drinks etc., tut chatting up the patron...or her mum... ;)

I think the wee lavender bag was still in the shed when I sold the car and the roof spar is probably still leaning against that tree...

Remember it well Ali, stretch of road on the level, t-shirts and shorts, and she was on the left hand side.

Would love to think it was the daughter or her mum, but think it was the Granny.

It was the 20A fuse and holder this time as mentioned before it was coroded to death, I bypassed it with some connector block so I could get it home.

Off to order a new holder

You can get Littel fuse holders pre-wired up to 40A IIRC from Halfords or Maplins - or you can order one from Lotus.

Don't you just love the little buggers.

Just think of all the pleasure we get as opposed to all those owners with their reliable German machinery.

Mine has went wonky too now

I went out to move the car an hour ago, started it up to when the dash lights come on, then turned it off for some reason, then when i went to disarm it it started doing this beeping noise.

I now cant use the fob to turn the red light off on the dash and the key you put in the hole is not doing anything either.

Its still beeping, ive read my manual and im getting no where with it.

It beeps and the dash lights illuminate so i try to use the big button to disarm and nothing happens.

Should i disconnect the battery?

Ive relpaced the fob battery 5 minutes ago.

I could cry, its my day off tomorrow and i was looking forward to a good run in the car and now ive broke it and ive not even had it a week

When was the last time you took the car out ?

If it's been a while it may just be a flat battery,

& you will have to reprogram your keyfob now you have changed the battery in it.

If you post your VIN I can work out which alarm/immobiliser you actually have and will post the correct sequence to reset it. The touch fob does two different things depending on the type of alarm fitted.

It's not unheard of for the alarm/immobiliser to break, unfortunately, but fingers crossed it's just messed up.

Cheers,
Robin

Hi Robin,

I tried the sequence in the manual again, i had the front bonnet open and was just starting to undo the battery bolts when the alarm started going off, i used the stick immobiliser thing and it stopped, i then tried to start the car and it fired up :thumbsup

Turned it off and tried again and it worked again.

Its a bit late to start it again now but im looking forward to tomorrow to trying it again and hopefully its sorted its self, i might get the use of it tomorrow after all :thumbsup

Will let you know how i get on

Thanks for the replies

Donna :cheers

Well the immobiliser/alarm is playing up again  , just in time for tommorows run

I went out to move the car tonight, the red alarm was flashing so pressed the larger button on the fob, it went out as normal, i turned the key and let the pump prime and all the lights came on as usual, then when i turned the rest it started chirping and a clicking noise comes from the passenger side of the dash and the dash lights were all flickering.

When i press the large button it dosent do anything, as it just chirps and clicks as if its trying to go off but cant and the dash lights flicker:x

Last time i was fumbling about in the battery area when the alarm started going off so i could use the large button to disable it and it started ok.

Ive tried fumbling with the battery and the alarm sounds but its not right and is still clicking behind the dash.

Bummer, out of interest who can fix these kind of problems? im never had an issue with an alarm/immobiliser before
