Well it takes less than half the time so I'd say so. I have done quite a few pads changes. :D

Dan
As have I Dan, I wasn't having a Pop.

Im aware that you can remove Pads in the way you describe but feel its better to remove the Caliper so you can clean all the surfaces well etc and by the time you have to actually remove the caliper everything will be siezed as they have never been removed.

Sometimes it ain't about how quick you can throw it out the door.

Difference in opinion thats all.

Alan
As I said Alan you can still remove the caliper without undoing the allen bolt. There is nothing that you can do with that bolt removed that you can't do without removing it and as I said, its a pain in the arse to remove as the handbrake cable is in the way. I always check the sliders are free every time pads are changed. Still doesn't mean you have to remove the caliper.

Like you say, difference of opinion but please don't imply that I don't do, or know how to do, my job properly.

Cheers

I was always under the impression you shouldn't really put copper grease on the sliding pins. Something to do with it expanding under the heat of the braking items, and possibly restricting the caliper sliding properly. Makes me wonder now :scratch

If you've ever used Dan before (not in the biblical sense) you would know that "his" work is always top class.

Cant say the same for some of the efforts that came out of "JPS" but that wasnt always him working on the car... controversial..... well its been at least three days since I wound somebody up :D dont want to disapoint.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Although that's what you constantly do to others..........

I really didn't mean to come accross that way and i mean that. I think thats the trouble with a Forum, you can't tell the tone of what someone is saying.

Ok Dan, here's a couple of facts.

The only difference in the way we both do pads is that i remove the lower bolt and clean the threads.

So basically any rear pads done by yourself will never have had the lower bolts removed. (Going by the info you provided)

So which is better ? or maybe it's un necessary.

All said with no implications just facts

Anyhoo, at least everyone will know there are 2 ways of going about it.

All Good

In my opinion it is unnecessary and I'm not sure my customers would appreciate the extra labour charges. IYSWIM.

For example, I just charged for hours to remove, and refit a gearbox, another Lotus specialist I know charges 9 hours. Which bill would you rather have?

This isn't about which is better, its about which is easier or quicker whilst still doing the job right.

If you have plenty time then that's fine. :thumbsup

If I remember correctly, Dave decided that the pads would last longer if he reversed them and fitted metal to metal.

:damnfunny Brilliant.

He was right though, Pads would last longer if the abrasive material never touches the disc. Like your thinking !

I believe he said to mac "it feels odd". Mac noticed the discs smeared in copperslip and decided all was not well!
Or something like that!
