My thinking tonight is to p[op the battery out I have asked it to do alot over the past few days even though I have had it connected to the clio with jump leads.

I tried a push start last night but I am very wary of doing it I only have Ann ( a non driver) as an assistant.

I will check the plugs while I am at it incase something has popped out.

Would it be worth replacing the coil anyway (only think I havn't)

how big are the sparks supposed to be ? thinking last night they didn't seem alll that big and to be honest I was expecting som4ething close to lightning

Less than a 6 foot van de graaff would generate. Hope that helps

On a serious note, if you're getting a spark from the electrode to the tip in atmosphere (on all plugs), I'd recon its probably enough to run the car at idle at least.

Try dropping a little fuel in through the plug bores & see if it tries to fire?? Not convinced this is a HT issue :?

The more bits I change the less I am thinking it is anything to do with the ignition system.

Tommorow will be the first chance I get of looking at the car in daylight, the battery is on charge overnight, fingers crossed I have some more info/luck tommorow.

ok new battery in and it still doesn't start.

when I trry and start it it sneezes then stops.

I removed the plugs and they where wet with petrol so I tried starting it without the plugs and the starter motor wizzes away nicely.

Well, if wet with petrol, you'd assume it'd still have to be spark related. I have a spare coil, but it's well north of Glasgow at Hambos.

Well it won't start with wet plugs even if the coil is OK . . . take them out (now it's stopped raining), lob them in the oven at 150C for an hour, try again . . . or give hem a quick blowlamping . . . don't get them too hot tho . . .

You've got fuel and park and it still won't go . . . have you checked the cambelt (cams turning ?) . . .

Big thanks to everyone for their input I owe you all beer

Quick update.

I fitted a set magnecor leads to the car in the process of fixing it. I noticed that they had a rubber skirt around the top of the plugs and after last nights rain it would appear they have managed to keep all the water out the plug bores. :thumbsup
