Cannot believe how much space was available around the engine back then.

Nothing like that nowadays.

Steve.

Haven't forgotten about this but with the house move and everything else it has been on the back burner for a while now. Progress has been made and a lot of work has gone into the shell which is now pretty much back to original and no rust anywhere. More on it later in the week as I will try to remember to take some pics when I see it this time.

Did manage to sort out an engine though

Brand new 2.0l Zetec crate engine. Much of which will have to be discarded for the RWD conversion.

No pinto Campbell and despite initially wanting a duratec I was talked into a zetec as it makes installation slightly easier and you can dress it to look like a BDA sort of. Makes plenty power for a road car and it was much cheaper than a duratec.

This is how the shell looks now. New front end and floor pan sections, media blasted and now in primer. No rust and better than new. Next up are the 4 link kit, turrets, diff tunnel and bubble arches. Still a long way to go but slowly moving forward which gives me time to source all the small stuff, door handles, locks, winders, glass, seals, lights etc. The mechanical are all easily available but some of the smaller bits are getting hard to find and as such command some crazy prices. Tail lights and door handles to name a few.

Looking good.

Just being nosy,... is that a nova lurking behind it?

I will admit i do not understand the whole ford escort insane price thing

You can get far better cars for the same money

I think it is severely a case of rose tinted specs
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec
