marcoos_1 wrote:Robin, just a quick question.....you said there was two belts? The kit I ordered from Elise parts only came with one belt and a manual tensioner (I made sure I ordered the VVC kit as well). Is there another one I need other than the Alt belt (I changed that already with the new alternator, but I assume this is not the one you refer to?)
There is a belt at the flywheel end of the engine that connects the exhaust cam shaft to the #3/4 VVC intake camshaft (the VVC has two half-cam-shafts plus a single conventional exhaust camshaft).
I have no idea whether people typically change the short belt when they do a cambelt change, though I would think that's likely to be the case.

Cheers Robin. Kevin has very kindly sent me a spare he has today, so I might as well fit it at the same time. I couldn't drive around with the thought at the back of my head that I hadn't changed a belt.....especially with the recent history of my car!

Hi,
You'll need a copy of the service manual to understand all the correct timing marks to line up. It is very easy to bend a valve by setting the cams wrong.
Cheers,
Robin

I'll retract my previous post, forgot this was a VVC & I've never changed VVC belts.
The manual is easy enough to get a hold of & is pretty good.
