...cockflaps.....

There is a wee electronics issue. We ran out of diagnosis time. Good news is that all the fluids are in (inc water) and nothing is leaking out. Engine turned over fine and the Emerald detected all of the right outputs from the various sensors (which is good)

The problem is that it's not providing sparks or firing the injectors. First thing you think of is that it's the immobiliser - but the emerald reports that it's reading it fine and it's disabled. Re-set it and re-learned the immobiliser code a few times too....

Going back up tonight with proper wiring diagram in hand to see what the issue is - still feel it's immob related, as if it was a dodgy wire to injectors or coils, you'd imagine it to fire, but just run like a burse arse when it wasn't getting some of the signals it needs...

Hopefully a more positive report tomorrow....

Hey elastic-trickery is the easy bit!
The improtant thing is that it didn't go clatter-clatter-BANG! when you turned it over!

Good job Hambo! (And Shug!) :thumbsup

Shug,

Are you getting a reading for the CPS?

Yup - funnily enough, that was the first thing Hambo asked. It's showing cranking revs on the live mapping screen when you turn it over....

Does the VVT have a cam position sensor?

What's style of plug is on the ecu? Just wondering if we could use a standard ecu to try on it.

Did you say that it's neither firing or fueling?

VVC has a crank position sensor, and a VVC mech position sensor (but not actual cam rotational sensor)

No sparks, no fuel - classic immobiliser, but the emerald says it's reading the Lucas 5AS and it's active (ie, not immobilised)

The plug is a standard K plug, but the VVC uses 2 plugs that are wired down into one for the Emerald - therefore the pin assignments bear no relation to any rover ECU.

Probably totally unessesary but:

Have you ever got a spark form it?
Is the fuel pump running?
coils plugged in?
HT leads good?
Battery good?
Fuel line connected? (!)
Fuel filter clogged?

Prolly all covered but just in case....

Or the classic two that I check;

Is there fuel in the car.

Are the coils wired up and connected. (same as Rich)

All the above are checked or known quantities. The fuel rail is definately pressurising with fuel (ask me how we checked...) and the coils are plugged up correctly (we tried swapping connections, just in case).

I've just emailed Dave Walker in case there is something really stupid that I'm not doing in software (like I've ever done something stupid!)

I think I'll be back at it tonight - I've got a couple of ideas based around the immobiliser signal to the ECU - but I'll bloody get it to work!!!
