Great photo Fergus! I don't always drive like that....honest :wink:

Just back in from a good blat....car understeers like a mofo at high speeds! think a geometry check is on the cards.

You at Fintray Fd??

At 109 miles t a tank .................. yes you do :wink: The S2 does understeer when pushed IIRC Lotus set them up like that on purpose. Can be dialed out though. Nice looking car in black BTW 8) .

I usually get about 180 before refill flashes up on my bog standard S2 K series. Mind you I just do a 5 mile commute twice a day which probably isn't the best use of an Elise. Best I've had was a 270 miles on a slow trip up to Oban and back to Glasgow with some shorter journeys included. Sounds like the S1 has much better economy than the S2 despite having same engine? Is the S1 tank 33 litres as well? Cos it sounds like it must be bigger if you're getting 350-400miles to a tank.

the uber reliable wikipedia says the kerb weight for the

s1 = 725-755 kg fuel capacity = 36.4 l
S2 = 860 x 910 kg fuel capacity = 40.1 -43.5 l

although fuel ecomony is more dependant on your right foot

RDH beat me to it - that's the Toyota engined S2.

I have the K-series S2 and fuel capacity is 33 litres. I didn't think there was much difference between the S1 and early S2s under the skin.

Early S2's should have a fuel capacity around 36 litres, the S1 is 41.3 as I have found out more than once.

Std S2 has a close ratio gearbox and this ups the revs by a few hundred at cruising speeds, this will have an impact.

Short, from-cold journeys kill any MPG though. In my experience this has a 20% or higher impact. Eg our old Scoob might return 27mpg from a tank on "mixed" driving, but down nearer 22mpg if used exclusively to run us to the station and back (couple of miles each way max) with little longer running in between.

Harder to provide figures for my Elise as it's rarely used on short, from-cold trips, but I can say that my short town-drive to the m-way for a 12 mile commute lowers things to around 40mpg, from the 45mpg I'll get from sustained m-way cruising on one journey.

Just an update on my own miles per tank . . . got the most I've ever got from a tank last week. 275 miles. Mainly 6th gear motorway driving, but was amazed as I've never had more than about 250 before. Wonder if I could have pushed it to 300 . . . wouldn't want to do "a Ken" and run out though! :lol:

Slipstream a couple of trucks or vans, avoid the temptation to get immediately back up to 70mph after being slowed by traffic ahead (ie, brush the throttle to get back to 70 rather than opening it fully!), put your tyres up a few psi and you may well make it. Oh and turn the AC off :thumbsup
