It's hilarious when you see them with the rear clam off isn't it. Just seems like an engine on a dolly.

Reckon the boot firewall is going to need modified due to the inlet fannymould? Is that aluminium or GRP? The firewall that is, not the inlet!

Yes it will definately need the boot firewall modifying a little Olie, but we were thinking a nice removeable section there would be good anyway for the rear spark plug access you know? It's GRP so no problem.

The "plastic crap" makes it weigh less :-)

The only plastic thing that I know gives problems from time to time is the thermostat housing which can break sometimes when being done up or undone.

The plastic inlet manifold on my Freelander leaks like a sive. I hate the K series in that too, had to replace just about every water fitting and hose on that, just waiting for the inevitable 25k head gasket failure now, in my opinion it's a dreadful engine.

Rover changed the design or material of the inlet manifold gasket at some point - I would have expected that to have happened before the freelander fiasco and thus the freelander not to have had leaky inlet manifold problems.

If I had a freelander I would hate the K too :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Quite ok to have your own opinion! In mine, though it's a great engine. At 92k miles in I ain't complaining...

No, it's a clever engine made with horrendous production tolerances, opinions notwithstanding. It's cheap, mega light and has a proven upgrade path with cheap bits aplenty. Build it properly and it's actually pretty robust - you only need to look at it in racing with Elise trophy/Caterham applications where the jobs been done right. It took the fitment of a Toyota engine to the Elise and the subsequent highlighting of the relative fragility of it to indicate just what a kicking the wee old K can take in an Elise and happily clatter on. 8)

Still - let's keep on topic and keep the bashing of the engine that the majority of the 1000 odd members on here use with no problems to a minimum eh?

Looking good so far - really looking forward to the first install pics :thumbsup

Sorry it was not my intention to cause upset, i have been in the motor trade all my working life and the K series to mechanics in general is somewhat of a running joke with the 25k head gasket failures they are so common for etc

I apologise to anyone i may have caused offence to, it doesn't change my personal opinion of that engine but perhaps i should have kept it to myself.

Anyway! on with the build....

I personally love the K Series and hate to see it's good name being besmirched like this :rage

I use one to keep my garage door open when i'm doing Honda conversions and it has been pretty reliable with only one HGF, so there.

Just bought a Caterham with VHPD (let the slagging commence)

One HGF at the door and several before?

A different car?
