The part that lists the linkage at £270 + vat and the cables at £196+ vat

As you obviously haven't read my original post as to what all was in the 600ish I quoted.

And anyway as opposed to arguing in here could you not post up something interesting about your Time attack car, or you could of course carry on proving the entire Internet is doing it wrong.

Lol

Does Not Have To Cost that.

And Why Should I Post Up New Stuff Just So Others Can Copy It?

Think that was my fault for saying it was expensive .......

Back to topic, has anyone just routed the cables round the back of the gearbox?, utilising the original Honda mounting bracket/selector and save the need to manufacture any selector mechanisms.

Only down side I can think is your cable routing would be close to the exhaust manifold.

Mine did, and I never liked it, I also tried to get replacement cables from the converter but they were crazy money, if I can get them off in one piece they can be templated and made up by cable craft, they are kancakered though, and cutting them out will be a lot easier

Linkage will also be off shortly as soon as I get the time in the garage..

that's just one issue, the others are that putting a cable though 180 degree's adds a lot of slack to it as the inner on push will go round the outside of the bend, and on pull with take the inside, even the best cables in the world have this problem.

the other issue is there is not nice route for the cables to do this with the subframe on an K series car, on the later Yota ones it's much easier (and in fact it's what I did with the conversion for them keeping the std cables).

As I said before, I have the cables for the link-up kit made to spec, and complete with the linkage hardware they are under £300.

Is your present linkage the same as mine Simon, and would it be worthwhile fitting those experimental cables?

My gear change is one aspect that could be improved, so will check with Craig or Alan to see if adjustment would improve it.

well, I never used them as they were just too stiff.

they don't last forever, so new cables would probably help

linkage hardware has changed a little, but I doubt it's worth changing - apart from maybe new bronze bushes?

I realise i'm probably over complicating things, but could you not make the linkages into two parts to avoid the bend ?
Linkage moving a second linkage that then moves the gear change mechanism.
Could maybe then use normal cable ?
Can't believe how much stick you are getting for doing this conversion ?
Lots of experts telling you everything you've done is wrong, there must be a lot of honda'd S1's out there for everyone to be so knowledgable.
I'm glad you are sticking with it, and the posting, as it's good to learn from your own mistakes, but always better to learn from someone elses..

Apart from some early bickering about whether or not he should be doing it at all (which was mostly removed) this thread has been supportive of Sandy's efforts; any bickering about gear linkages, etc., is all good as I'm sure it's one of the issues Sandy will have to address to get the engine in and working.

It is going to stay that way also - build threads of any sort are hugely popular and we don't want it wrecked by bun fighting :-)

Cheers,
Robin

What robin said is absolutely correct, after the early posts everyone I have spoken to has been extremely helpful. Obviously everyone has their own opinion on the best way to go and without personal experience it is difficult for me to decide. It is good to see the discussion, though.
I don't think anyone will be surprised when I do what I intended to do in the beginning and go with the Stark kit and K-Pro. Progress will be zero due to me being away for the next month, but I will be watching the posts on the site.
