Spax damper refurb

I'm waiting on a Steve Butts S2 kit for my S1. Once they eventually arrive (backorder late Sept!!), I'll be removing my trusty but shot Spax kit fitted around late 2002.

I know that some dampers eg Leda, Nitron, can be "rebuilt". What are the chances of doing this with the Spax kit? Is it something you could do DIY with some engineering ability?

I am thinking of offering my old kit to Ian, bruv in law, and since he's a) quite handy and b) quite careful with cash, he may be interested in trying to DIY refurb them for use on his S1 whose Konis are well shot...

My thought is, if you can do a refurb for the cost of some valves, some oil, some time and some shot-blasting of springs, maybe it's worth a go?

Looking forward to being shot down...

No idea, ask Spax perhaps?

Ask spax would be my advice. I doubt you can do it yourself, if only because you won't get the parts.

I don't know whether they put dampers on the dynometer to set valving - I think they ought to, but maybe they can do it by design. If it's a per-damper setup then you obviously don't have one lying around.

TBH, the cost of overhauling them is likely to approach the cost of 2nd hand S2 dampers which will probably suit him better for a road car anyway.

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks both. Was just curious. I may well contact Spax out of interest.

To be honest, the way the supply of new Bilsteins is going, 2nd hand ones are going to be the only ones available for anyone right now!!
