S2 Exige - factory airbox

Post by SteveBanks » Fri Sep 21, 2007 6:57 pm

Does anyone have the factory airbox sitting in their garage? My mil light and revs not dropping below 2k problem is being blamed on my Pipercross and I'd like to fit a standard filter to see if it's definately this causing the problem.

If someone has one then could I possibly borrow it for a bit?

Is it a fly-by-wire one? Almost certainly being caused by the throttle position sensor at the pedal. But Lotus will tell you these do not fail and cannot be the problem. You are f*cked :-(

Is your car still in warranty? Who fitted the piper cross?

Cheers,
Robin

I have a reverie carbon one that you can borrow for a bit......if it works fine and you like the results you can keep it for a small fee......

The loan is FOC, although you will have to collect from weegieland!

PS I didn't have any probs (MIL) with it.....apart from it hurting my ears!

I had the pipercross stuff fitted to the 111R when new. I am sure I have all of whatever was there before sitting in the garage somewhere since I remember it all being in the boot on delivery. Not sure if its any help to you tho.

Robin,
It a '04 pre FBW. The pipercross was on the car when I bought it and I had no issues for about 9mths, then the mil light would illuminate and reset every once in a while. This became more frequent until the revs started to settle above idle when coming to a stop and would only return to idle with a blip of the throttle.

We discussed the MIL code when the problem started:

http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... highlight=

The car was recently in being serviced by Ali and he said that there was nothing he could do about this problem so the only option was to ditch the induction, or replace with a new B-spec (motorsport) ecu. I just can't get my (not very mechanical) head around the fact that it ran faultlessly for for 8k miles and then just gradually got worse. Could the material of the Pipercross possibly decay over time? Ali cleaned and oiled it when he serviced the car.

Jim,
I may take you up on that since you are just up the road, I just want to run it for a couple of days with the standard filter to see if the problem disappears. Could you pm me if you still have all the parts? Cheers.

Meatball,
Likewise, it would also be good to test a different aftermarket induction to see if the problem is with the Pipercross. If so, I would buy the Reverie from you as I'd prefer not to go back to standard. What did you replace it with? Was the Reverie too loud?

The induction kit will still be available....I only advertised it in SELOC.
I went back to standard as I intended to buy a 2bular ultra and I think both would have made me go deaf!
The induction kit does add a lot of noise....especially on top cam.
Too loud.....hmmmmm.......I went a run to Skye and back and my ears did start to ring after a while......its a fairly lengthy journey, 250 miles or so each way, but just normal use is fine!

Hope that helps.......it's just sitting in the garage anyway!

Oh, well that's promising then.

Come to a stop in neutral and hopefully catch the engine idling too fast.

Now leave the throttle pedal alone, pop open the boot, locate the throttle quadrant (the thing the throttle cable attaches to, somewhere near the pax seat bulkhead).

Work out which way the throttle cable would pull the cable when you press the pedal.

Move the quadrant the other way - does the idle return to normal?

Cheers,
Robin

Well, it will always move a bit - the question is whether the movement is significant in terms of idle revs - but you're right in the sense that it should only move a fraction of a mm.
