Brake discs and pads

Post by meatball » Tue Sep 25, 2007 5:55 pm

Apparently my exige with 10k on the clock needs new discs and pads.....
I will have Ali SLS check this.....however...
My intention is to buy grooved discs from stu and just use standard pads till my track driving gets better then get pagids.....

How much do 4 pagids pads cost?

Opinions and info requested please!

cheers

mate, who told you that? how much wear is left on them?? 10k seems a bit on the short side for both - pads maybe but disks????

If you do need some, i'd go for aftermarket rather than the lotus stuff - general consensus seems to be pagid rs42's and eliseparts alu belled discs... Discs arent cheap but you only take the big price hit once, as you can buy replacement rotors without buying the center bell.

oh they look cool as fcuk too ;)

MMC told me but will get Ali to confirm and I will prob follow his/SE advice.....
Elise parts was an option but told stu's were better?????
I don't know if I'd get the benefit of the pagids at the mo.......
More opinions.......

Mutts Nutts ali bells :thumbsup

SBS pads seem to get good reviews by those that use them and half the price of the pagids.

Stu's discs and SBS pads will be great compared to your current ones so go for them. Also get someone to measure your discs properly first, I have a micrometer to check them if you can wait until KH on the 19th.

Pagids made a dramatic difference to the brakes on my Elise. Going to abuse the standard ones on my Exige for a few thousand miles then change to pagids in the new year!

Campbell, I'm happy to lend a hand changing pads if you want. Never done disks though.

You could conceivably wear discs and pads in 10k, IMHO. I reckon my first set went on not long after that, and that's a simple S1 Elise which had not exactly been tortured.

As Lawrence would say...learn to brake less, it only uses more fuel ;-)

I replaced the disks on my Exige at about 12K back in the summer, the general feeling on here was that MMC might have been a bit pessimistic about how worn they were...

I went for the EliseParts alu belled discs and Pagid RS42s, not cheap but seem to get a pretty good write-up on here :)

I would doubt you will need new discs, but if you need pads,I have just fitted SBF,s and they do seem good, not had a chance to really test them out yet,but better than I have tried before.

I can supply them if you want.

As for discs,if its just road driving, and you dont "need" the look if an ally belled disc,my grooved ones will do the job,but perhaps in another 10,000miles time.

My discs lasted 25k. I'm not a hard braker but my car has done a lot more trackdays than Campbells Exige has. I've had OEM, Greenstuff, SBS and now have Pagids with discs from Stu. If you don't do mostly road miles, SBS will be more than good enough and they're around £100 less than Pagids.

Discs are a piece of p!ss to change just make sure you have a drill ready to get the screw out of the disc when it gets rounded off

My car eats disks and pads.... it sits for two weeks not being driven when I am away at work, so there is a nice rust build up when I get back... if you use it every other day you dont get that problem so your wear is a lot less.

The moral is... use it every day and spank it regularly
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Just do it yourself, it really is a simple job. If you can change pads, you can change discs.

Hmmmm.....if a change is needed looks like stu's grooved discs and SBS pads.....(did stu mean SBS or SBF?)......
I take it I should leave the ali belled ones.......and save some dosh???
The change won't take place before the 19th and 21st oct......
Hoping my new oil cooler will be in by then!

Tempted by learning to change stuff myself!
