Airbox plate / throttle body questions (with pics)

Post by jj » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:47 pm

Got round to getting the airbox off the car today, and noticed that the plate that holds the trumpets on and the airbox to the car is rusty and the paint is flaking off.

Is this part of the filter assembly, if I buy a new ITG or similar big filter will it come with a new plate? I cant find anywhere that sells them online with pics to see what you get. I dont think it does come with a new plate but wanted to check, also is it OK to just undo all the allen key bolts to get the trumpets and plate off to get the rust off?

At the moment the filter is at the end of the ducting (which was placed down towards the undertray, not at the hole in the side of the car) so is it best to leave it as-is (filter is clean now) and get the plate powdercoated or sand it and hammerite it?

I dont have an oil catch tank, at the moment it vents back into the airbox, is this a worthwhile thing to do (there was a fair bit of oily gunk in the airbox)

If you decide to take the plate off, I can plastic media & grit blast it and have it painted - any colour as long as it's black.

i think udis repainted his backplate black
trumpets come off easy i refitted with small fibre washers with a flat filled to secure them tightly else they rattle
my camcover vents to astomsphere via some tubing but most use a catch tank and special motorsport siamesed hose , my other hose also vents to astsmophere
but you have to remove the tube from bods to hose and seal the t bod 4 small hose pipes
