Eh?

Take head off.

Throw away nylon dowels and head gasket

Fit steel dowels and new head gasket.

Reassemble.

Might have missed a bit of detail there but the principal is there. New dowels came with my Rover head gasket.

whatever you do . . . ensure that the dowels actually fit in the head before you muller them into the block (usually you have to drift them into the block - if so use something soft like a plastic mallet and usually they are a looser fit in the head - BUT NOT ALWAYS !) . . . else you may have severe block/head reassembly trauma . . . and that terrible feeling that you may just have ruined a perfectly good engine by being a c0ck . . .

ruined is such a harsh word, you can fix anything, somethings just need a little more thought
