Looking to upgrade the suspension on my S1 Elise for road and track/hillclimb use. There is an Ohlins kit for the S2 rover engined cars but not one listed for S1's. Is there any difference in the fitting between the models? and has anyone used this kit?. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

If the ohlins fits on K powered S2's, it should fit S1's, possibly with a change of a few brackets.
Most seem to go for
Nitrons, but if you can afford new ohlins, I'd imagine it would be down to personal taste between the two.

Having had Ohlins on a couple of bikes before I know that the support and servicing of them is excellent. They are really good suspension units, on a bike at least and I suspect that that expertise would be carried over to there car kits. However you are right about the price they are Bl**dy expensive, but they are quality bits of kit.

IIRc there's two types of ohlins, the std bike one's adapted to fit and the set Plans Motorsport supply which are designed for the elise.
