I've just fitted a Janspeed backbox and now I'm having problems with the engine idle and MIL light. I havent touched the CAT or any sensors connected to it. Has anyone had this problem and if so how do you fix it ?

not too sure about the idle but i ve heard that its normal for the MIL light to come on after fitting a Janspeed backbox......

Is it a toyota or rover engine.
Either way, get the car to any respectable garage and they'll have an OBD-II code reader; get them to read the codes, make sure you write them all down carefully, not just the first one. Then ask them to clear the codes. The MIL may come back on again - if it does you'll already have the codes.
Post the codes here - don't worry about the english translations - get the Pxxxx numbers as they're what counts.
Cheers,
Robin

Hi Robin
The only fault code to be found is P0132 "High Voltage, Bank1, Sensor 1".
The error was erased, came back straight away(cold engine), high but ok idle. Cleared the engine fault code again(hot engine) very lumpy idle no MIL light this time however when I tried to hold a consistant RRP the engine died. Any thoughts??
Regards

You need Robin to translate...

im pretty sure that code relates to the pre-cat o2 sensor... thats the one thats used to regulate the fuel / air mixture so would explain the lumpy idle & mil light.
Are you sure you didnt snag any cables when changing the back box?

High voltage bank 1 sensor 1 normally means pre-cat sensor indeed.
What I cannot explain is the lumpy idle. Normally, when the system detects an error, it triggers the MIL light and changes the algorithm in an open loop. This means it will go into safe mode and will ignore anything coming from the oxygen sensors.
As for the High Voltage error... have you checked the wiring of the sensor? Sounds like a shortcut somewhere.
What you could do is make sure the system goes in open loop and just pull the oxygen sensor plug. The computer will detect and go open loop.
Then again... the sensor needs to be looked after.
