I am sure the MOT regulations now require the tester to specifically check the number plates for the BS kite mark and font size / spacing etc. My exige failed on the plates (front one too small) but they made me a proper one to pass (12 quid I think) and I will stick it on next mot time

The law states the following:-

All new number plates must conform to the following specifications:
Characters/ Size
Height 79 mm
Width 50 mm
Stroke 14 mm

Side margin
11 mm
Top & bottom margin
11 mm
Space between characters
11 mm
Space between groups
33 mm

Outlawed:
Other typefaces.
Bold or italic script.

Hopefully that helps
