PRRT, landrover use it to fix freelanders so it must work to some extent!

There is a guy called Carlos on SELC*CK who has a website with different routing options, pretty sure they will work on an S2. I can't remember my login (Such a shame) so someone else will have to find it!

I was JUST reading that - how weird....
Got some good hints and tips... Definately do the PRRT upgrade on the 10th if Ali has time.

OK, this is an approach which has it's fans and people who say it's OTT.
I'll try to explain both sides:
Pro:
The thermostat housing is inside the block, close to the water channels in the head. When the engine warms up, the thermostat will be closed and the coolant inside the block will warm up rather quickly.
As soon as the coolant is nearing the temperature of the preset thermostat, the thermostat will open and will start to get coolant from the long circuit (the radiator)
As this is coolant is rather cold, there will be a big temperature difference betweeen the coolant which is let into the small loop and the coolant which is actually in the loop.
The theory of the remote stat is based on an opening and closing thermostat which will constantly send tsunamis of cold coolant in a hot system, thus causing thermal shock.
Con:
A thermostat isn't a switch which you flick on and off. Simply throw a thermostat in boiling water and you'll see that it does take some time to open.
The 'con-people' say that the thermostat will open NEAR it's set temperature, but it will not open completely as the small loop is small indeed and will cool rather quickly. Therefore, they say there is not thing as thermal shock. The only thing that could happen is that the overal temperature of the head will go down slightly untill the long loop (radiator) is completely at working temp.
Personally, I do think the "con-camp" has a point. When I go out visiting customers / dealers, I always tend to talk to the elderly

People who have long years of experience and talk Esprit engine / K-series engine etc. These are the people who are mainly saying it's OTT.
Up to you, I never had one on my K-series and never had a failing HGF, but hey.. I'm no driving god

Had a quick email from Ali at SLS last night and he said it is a good mod however a PITA to fit and would require some time....
Going to wait to see what he says about the cars overall condition etc before i go for it... As i think thers something wrong.
Rad replaced in Feb with new hoses and since getting it there is a strange noise from the front of the car - and coolent is disappearing - so i am wondering if they are related?

Rover PRRT works differently agin, it has a pressure bypass too. Look it up on Carlos' site, he has a much better description.
Also Landrover thought this was a good idea to stop the freelanders blowing up...
