S2 - Sports Tourer - New Rear Tyres ? ?

Post by a4drk » Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:30 pm

I need 2 rear tyres.
Fronts are Bridgestone RE040's with 6mm tread.
Rears are Michelins.

I've decided against the Yoko AD07 route - purely for cost.

Justy going to get 2 x REO40's on the rear - keep it original & matching.
Does anyone out there know the difference between all the different kinds?
Black circles.co.uk - 225/45/17 - Bridgestone RE040
There are 6 kinds !
4 are W speed rating & 2 are Y speed rating

RE040 BZ - Y - £92.08
RE040 - Y - £91.90
RE040 JZ - W - £90.28
RE040 BZ - W - £94.35
RE040 LOTUS - W - £108.61
RE040 VX 220 - W - £129.84

At least I thought the last 2 would be the same !

thoughts anyone?

David

The differences are in the sidewall construction. As the vx220 is a bit lardy, it uses stiffer sidewalls. I cant remember what the lotus specific DOT code is, but i'll try and dig it out for you - there's no point paying extra cash for what's not really a lotus spec tyre.... I speak from experience here

Cheers,

Steve

edit to say: DOT code is CFE for the front and DCK for the rear.

In case your really bored

Bridgestone tyre spec sheets ( the re40 will be in there somewhere )

http://www.bridgestone.eu/English/Globa ... k_2005.pdf

Part of the great Dot code debate from Vx220.org

[quote name='Ceedy' date='May 8 2006, 02:17 ' post='459584']
I just got a written reply from Bridgestone that the DOT code is not relevant:

Thank you for your enquiry.

As you have correctly assumed the dot code reference is not relevant
when purchasing the tyres. In case you have any problems though, I can
confirm that our product code for the correct tyre is IPC 77434.

Kind regards

DOT DCK/DKE is the elise code

My old rear vx wheels had the RE040 BZ - W on them which felt Exactly the same as the vx specific tyre

Right !
Still looking for tyres!
Definately decided on RE040's
The fronts have 6mm on them & i'm not changing them.
On Fleabay there is a tyre shop selling 2 x RE040's for £183 inc P&P (Brand New)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-NEW-TYRES-225-4 ... dZViewItem
MMC want £188 for 1 tyre ! - which is dearer than the A048's.
anyway
What difference will it make if you don't fit the "lotus" Bridgestone,
bearing in mind the car currently has got Bald Michelins on it at the moment!
These ones above for sale are the 94W XL ones......

Blackcircles will do the specific lotus tyre for £120 fully fitted if that helps? VX one is £111 and all the other re040's for sub £110.

I just bought them from Black circles - £211 for 2 delivered.

I'm using a place down in Leith to fit them. - Wee garage called ST Motors in Bangor Rd.
£7.50 a wheel including a sticky weight balance & new valve.

Cheapest place for the Lotus RE040's.

Just out of curiosity, did you check the DOT code on the sidewall? I've been fobbed off with alternative RE040s when i specificly ordered the lotus spec tyre at extra cost...

Cheers,
