front clam help please !!!!
HI all,
have finally got arount to removing the front clam, partly forced by sudden water leak, found to be passenger side radiator pipe never having been fitted properly since car was built and finally dropping off.
Anyway my problem is this, I had to hacksaw off the top of fthe driver side sill front end bolt and the passenger side A post bottom bolt, so not have to fix this before refittign the clam.
Has anyone else had this problem if so, how did you fix the clam back to the car.
help please

I would look at drilling the rivnut out then dropping a dollop of silicon sealant/tigerseal in the hole to stick the swarf down and stop it rattling. Then replace the rivnut and use a load of copper slip on the threads of the ned bolts!

I Had to do this with N1TUT. I actually cut out the old nut out clear from the fibreglass. Welded a small bar onto a new nut then fibreglassed it into place, if your carefull you can do it without affecting any visible areas. The clam should be slotted for the lower bolts meaning you can just slip the clam sideways with some tiger seal.

luckily my clam already had slot's and with a bit of gentle perusasion I managed to "gently" slide it off I am unable to loosen the bolt, someone at somepoint has taken out the M6 and replaced it with an M8 and this has broken the rivnut off inside. to remove the bolt would only require chopping the head off and then it would fall off inside the sill. I worry I won't be able to get it out.r10crw wrote:I Had to do this with N1TUT. I actually cut out the old nut out clear from the fibreglass. I also have a similar problem with the skooshy bottle bracket i need toget the battery out and the rivnut has broken off that will be easier to repair though.

we just gently tapped the rivnut into the body of the car, hope it will work its way out, or into a corner where it will jam itself and not stick.
Electric saws are great !!!!
At the moment it seems fine, but plan it to do the same as mentioned weld a nut onto a plate so it is in the hole left and poprivet it onto the car, or go completely nuts and take the whole side off and get inside.
thanks to you all for your support and feedback.
