S2 suspension - which way round

Post by s333fee » Wed Nov 28, 2007 12:02 am

Hi all,

have fitted the s2 bilstein suspension upgrade but the car is running high at the front and low at the back.

Have checked the mounting brackets and they seem to be on the lower set of mounting holes so not really able to move them.

Have checked the springs and they are the right way round, but was wondering if the damper, or shockies could be fitted at the opposite ends.

currently the front has the dampers ending 0007 and the rear ending 0009. can anyone tell me if this sounds right.

want to get this sorted before getting a geo done

thanks

The front dampers will be about 25mm shorter than the rears(i would think) Have you fitted them the right way round?

I remember a while back some issues with the S2 kit being to high, but I am sure that was sorted.

Did you use one of Steve Butts kits?

hi,

bought kit from geary at elise parts, a while ago, initally thought it might sort itself out over time, but hasn't

still have the old dampers which ar GAZ and what i assume are the old brackets in a box , to get overhauled so might try using different brackets to see if that helps.

To lower the suspension at the front you must RAISE the bracket on the chassis, so you need the bracket at the front in the upper holes, not lower holes.

The 007 dampers are the front and the 009 are the rear so you have it the right way around, just the wrong bracket position at the front.

Cheers,

cheers guys

will try moving the brackets at both ends and see how that goes, although I think it is in the UPPER holes already. will double check

guess the garage may not have got it right. - wasn't the usual mechanic so this could be why

Dunno how old your car is but I had to drill some more holes in the chassis...

The brackets didn't fit where they should as mine is an early car.

hi guys,

thanks for your comments and info, have now moved the front brackets into the UPPER holes and turned the rear brackets upside down the raise the rear of the car, this cetainly seems to have helped it look better alhtough have not yet put in on a ramp to measure it properly, but at least it looks better.

Thanks for your help

So it is just possible to buy the brackets on there own and find a second hand set of dampers.

Is it worth buying a set of dampers from a breakers yard?? My konis are shot and I can't afford to buy a new kit just now...I'm always skint this time of year :(
