sticking brakes

Post by Scottynic » Sat Dec 08, 2007 1:42 pm

Recently i have not been using the car very often and leaving it in front of house without handbrake on yet the brakes keep locking on.

Last night I drove to end of the street (15m) not realising the front brakes were locked and smoking the tyres.

Do you think my tyres will be ruined?

Also anything i can do to prevent this happening again?

Cheers

Thrash the brakes just before you stop, helps heat them up and clean them of water and stop them sticking. Try bedding them in again.

The tyres should be ok, look for a flat spot. If its bad they might need a skim if you can find somewhere to do it.

thanks, dont think the recent weather has helped with heavy rain and wind as the disks seem to rust after about 10mins.

Simon advised me to left-foot brake for the last few mins of the journey before you park up. Works a treat! Just gently depress the brake with your left foot while driving the last few streets before you get home and it should get rid of all the moisture between pad/disk before you park up.
