s1 leaking roof problem - possible solution

Post by s333fee » Sat Dec 08, 2007 9:04 pm

hi all,

some may already know this, but anyway here goes;

By a bit of an accident we seem to have cured the leaking roof,

we had to undo the front of the doors at the hinges, don't ask why. Anyway when we replaced the bolts ( 3 of ) we pulled the door up as high as it would go before redoing the bolts, this seems to have lifted the front of the windows, on our car at least, enough to close the gap where the water comes in at the front.

Just thought you might like to try it, you will need a 10mm & 13mm ring spanner or similar to undo / redo the bolts.

Sounds like a fairly straight forward plan, I might attempt it tomorrow (weather permitting)

My softtop isn't too bad for leaking (If I can get it in the middle that is) my hardtop is a nightmare...

I was planning to get some thin rubber piping from B&Q an d beef the hardtop rubber seal out a bit with it, this could save me the hassle.

All that said, my window hands a bit low I reckon.

I would have thought that the hardtop would have made the car dry!?

For that reason I was considering one-might not bother now! Just concentrate on getting the garage built

Mine is also water tight with the hardtop. However i will also check out the door, as water pours in on a heavy down pour when i have the soft top on.

Good Idea

As long as the locks still line up ?????

hi all,

yes the locks still line up as you are only undoing the 3 bolts on the front hinge as it enters the plastic door, not moving the whole hinge, and as the strengthening bar runs all the way through the door this seems to still line up the door lock just fine.

We also have a hard-top on now but seemed to have small gap at the front of the windows as it meets the windscreen / A pillar, but this could just be our car. Seemed to move the window up approx 5 -6 mm or approx 1/4 inch old money. but I guess this could just be down to how the car was built.

Anyway has solved the problem almost completely and passed the hose test, except for one small drip after 1 min of hose ,but then the gold leaks like this also.

Exactly the same gap on my car, although I know my drivers window doesn't go up as far as it should. I couldn't get the bolts out of the alloy winder to get the door card out to have a look at adjusting the window though, I just wind the window up with the door open, and a hand pulling it up a bit ;)

Hose test!? I would never dream of hosing my Elise, the first (and only) time I did, I opened the passenger door, which then spilt about half a buckets worht all over my feet :(

I can also push my drivers side window in a bit which stops most of the leak.
