Was considering a conversion when I stumbled across this.... makes for interesting reading, especially the first line

Yup - had a chat with Hambo (who works in a MOT test garage and read the new directive the MOT tester reads) about this last night - aftermarket HID kits *will not* pass MOT with a stringent tester unless they have washers and levelling motors.

No loopholes, doesn't matter if they are aftermarket add ons or not.

so its better to have sh*t lights than safe lights? surely if there isnt a HID headlamp developed for the car then the next best thing is to change the lamps? there must be some sort of shroud for the lamp that can be installed to modify the beam pattern?
xenon 'style' halogen lamps are nearly pointless.

my S1 lights are terrible and so were the 300ZXs. the HID lamps transformed them. will be doing the same with the Elise.

even some cars that have them fitted as standard, BMWs/Jags/RangeRovers etc still give a hellish glare/dazzle coming towards or behind you.

ho-hum

So it's a matter of time before YvoTuk's SELOC Bulkbuy's fold or everyone will continue to ignore the law...

What's the latest with these new Osram/Philips super-bright bulbs - do they come close ?

N3 went through the MOT, a strict legit one, with 130/90 Rally bulbs in with no prob.

Phillips Bright etc are way below this, so as long as the adjustement is correct it should not matter.

MOT garages have no test gear for measuring head lights out put.
Just pattern and aim of dip beam.

BUT VOSA has gear to test for all theas things and lots more :!:
not just MOT, but construction and use and you do not want to go
there.

I bought a set on Yvo's last bulkbuy, all I can say its Awesome!! Mine just had a MOT the week before I fitted it, so won't know if it'll get through until next year. But if it fails, all I'll do is remove the burner and put the old bulbs back, then refit after. To me its no different from people having a de-cat pipe fitted and putting the cat back on to pass the emissions.

Correct. 8) Just avoid roadside VOSA checks (almost shat myself driving past one at Sheilds Road a while back, when I decided to bring the liz - *might* just not have passed the emissions test...)
