Wheel and Tyre sizes

Post by Titanium S1 111S (gla) » Mon Feb 20, 2006 4:16 pm

A friend has offered me a deal on a set of S2 wheels, does anybody know whether they will cross over onto my S1?

I haven’t heard of anybody doing a swap which makes me think that you can’t.

I have checked the sizes and they look very similar. Is there a difference in the stud pattern or some other issue I’m not thinking of like the effect on the suspension dynamics?

S1 S2
195 x 50 x 15 Front 195 x 50 x 16 Front
225 x 45 x 16.5 Rear 225 x 45 x 17 Rear

Cheers, Graham

Makes sense, I was 99% sure it was a no go when he offered me them. Still, means that there will be a nice set of black OZ’s with almost new 48’s up for grabs. If anybody’s interested then I’ll pass on the message.

I think they may fit if you use geary's convertors http://www.eliseparts.com/shop/index.ph ... cts_id=219

Yup - horrible little splined head bolt things...

Having said that, they're more sturdy than the truly sh*te tin capped nuts that the S1 is saddled with.....

Interesting, your quite right, those bolts are bast**ds. I had an MG F before the Elise which uses the same ones, why they can’t invest an extra couple of quid on proper machined ones I have no idea. I suppose that that kind of cheapness along with little joys like head gasket failure are there to remind us why all the volume British car manufacturers went t*ts up.

Still, gives us enthusiasts something to moan about / do on Sunday afternoons. I’m getting quite good a K-Series head gaskets although I’m not anxious to try one on the Elise.

Just occurred to me that it probably doesn't matter whether the wheels are held on by bolts or studs as long at the off-set is right. Thoughts?

I think the PCD is also different IIRC.

Long and short - they won't fit without major hassle. Plus, the geometery on the S1 is designed around the wheel/tyre combo. It's not massively different on the S2, but I believe there are detail changes at the rear. You may also have clearance issues.

Have never heard of anyone trying it, but best bloke to ask would probably be geary at Eliseparts...

Yup, came to that conclusion a while ago. I already have 2 and a half sets of wheels anyway so the additional hassle and expense I can do without. It was suggested that I just buy an S2, but that’s taking matter a wee bit far. Thanks for the assistance.
