Wing Liner Screws

Post by 111Robin » Fri Jan 18, 2008 8:40 am

Taking the clam off, all clam screws are free but a couple of the wing liner fixings at the sill end are turning inside. If you cut the heads off, can you knock the screws into the sill and replace the rivnuts or are you left with a huge hole and no easy way to fix it ?.

They are rawl nuts, those crap rubber ones. Ideally you don't want to knock them into the sill they will rattle about, I chop the head off and push them through the outer panel the panel will then come off. You can then pull the remains out with pliers by wiggling it.

Thanks Richard. I had to cut off a few of these elsewhere, just wasn't sure if I had to punch them through into the box section or not. These must be the worst fittings they could have used, all of them are turning.

Is it better to use stainless screws next time ?. I managed to blag some A4-70 screws from work for the under tray. Is stainless vs. brass nut a good combo ?
