VVC head

i know where i can get one. is it worth getting as it looks like the ports and valves are bigger? and how much is it worth?

Yes - essentially, the ports and valves are the same as the VHPD head. You'll just have to buy a VVC blanking kit (~£110 last time I looked) and different (bigger journals on the inlets) cams for it.
As for price, no idea - but I bought a full VVC engine for £550 a couple of years ago.

thanks shug. like i say it did look bigger (and that was from memory) but if i get a blank plate for the VVC solenoid/actuator i should be able to run it like a VHPD engine is this correct?

I would stick with the VVC until it blows up then blank it off...

Yes, but beware - the cams are different because the journals are larger for the VVC inlet cam. Piper will charge you extra for the inlet cam to work with the VVC head. Other than that though, it's a fairly well-worn path. Cheak out Dave Andrews site (specifically his K Series page)

Its only a bit of electric string, how hard can it be?
Surely it can't be that hard to change a couple of plugs...

id rather not convert it to a VVC engine. i intend to get a hold of this head, clean it up and do some light port work, blank off the VVC and run it on the std management. im only going to change it if the head has to come off the car for whatever reason. im not that bothered. if it doesnt get used il just wing it on the 'Bay.
what do you do about the distributor? mine has one but this vvc head doesnt? does it still fit if i remove the cover?

I don't think that it will fit - you would need to check with piper whether their VVC cams even have a dizzy drive - the standard VVC "cams" obviously don't.
You're making it hard for yourself going this way I think ... wasted spark would be easier but requires an aftermarket ECU ...

Most bits are here - I need some more time to actually build it now and at present time is quite scarce

I also need a donor S1 in the first instance (for various reasons, it's going to be easier for me to target S1 first).
Greg, got your ears on? Your car might actually make a good first target ...
