Common rear wheels?

Post by thinfourth » Tue Jan 22, 2008 2:17 pm

Okay as a non elise owner i small ask this question

Is there a common backwheel that will fit the vast majority of elise/exige etc

now i ask this with autotesting in mind so it does not to be a solution that will see you hammering round a track at high speeds. Also i think the hubs are nothing exotic so providing clearance is not and issue then surely you could go for a smaller rim and taller tyre.

As with the 7s i have a largish stock of rims and tyres which are shared around for some autotests

Now if we could get a couple of sets of cheap spare rims for the back of an elise then we can get more folk out doing the slippy sideways smoky fun.

getting stock 16s for the back of S1s is difficult, and probably expensive :? I'm not aware of a generic wheel that will fit

But they don't need to be 16's - if it's a metro hub surely a metro wheel will fit? Perhaps with the aid of a spacer?

Wouldn't that completely change the way the car drove by putting a 14inch (or whatever size a metro wheel is) wheel on it?

Never done an autotest, so it may actually be a desireable side effect? :o

An autotest is right up yor street mate - lots of poles and spinning around, theres a fair bit of squeeling too

What we need is an elise and a friendly scrappy who will let us try different combinations

you don't want good tyres either - you want low grip - hard wearing pikey tyres

Elise front 15s fit the rear.

Not a great cut in price, but the tyres are much cheaper.

I remember seeing an auction on eBay for a 'full set of Lotus Elise alloys' about 6 months ago. Nice photo with 4 alloys sitting side by side, 4 identically sized 15 inch alloys that is! Don't think it sold for more than a couple of hundred quid - obviously most Elise owners realise they have odd wheels ;)

I think Compomotive were the first to do a set of wheels that fit the Elise, should be able to pick up a second hand set fairly cheeply off some old *insert old ex - rally car here*?

So we are looking at 15" metro fitment alloys

As to tyres i think Dom had a good line in total cack tyres for the infamous binner
