Air Con Radiator

Post by Alex 111s » Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:04 pm

Guys, just found out that i need to replace the Air Con Radiator because of a stripped tread onthe aluminium fitting.

The clam is already off for some other work so isn't as major a problem as it could be but i want to get my hands on a replacement rad pretty quickly as i want to ge the car back on the road.

Is this repairable? Does anyone know of an other spource for thes appart from Lotus?

thanks

Alex

What fitting? Male or female thread? Helicoil? Sleeve it?

Lots of posibilities depending on the damage.

eliseparts.com is probably the best bet if you have to replace it

thanks Andy, I had a look on the elise parts site but don't think they (or elise shop) stock the air con rads, only the main ones.

I haven't been to see it since finding out there was a problem with it so i'm only going on what i've been told but i trust the guy working on the car. The air con guy was there to re-charge the system and couldn't get a seal at the connection.

spoke to them again this morning and the air con guy was going to source a new non-lotus air con rad of the same size. just hope he can get it done quickly. :(

Its probably off a Rover or something, might be a standard part?

apparently not, the specific part is unique to Lotus £350+VAT, but the guy recons that AN Other OEM unit from a small hatchback will fit in the space and do the job.

as lotus don't make much and they certainly don't make AC radiators they buy them in from someone, but it's finding out who, and what they also make them from. problem is lotus are now selling enough cars that they can get specific parts made :(

Sorry, i should've been clearer. the guy fixing the air con has tried that route but it would appear that this part is bespoke to Lotus form a radiator manufacturer.

Or weld it up and fix it that way?
