Scottish Elises

My clutch pedal has been making an annoying screeching noise for some time now but it's really getting so bad I might actually have to motivate myself to do something about it. It's also a bit "jerky" but I think that's related.

Will WD40 fix this or is a part wearing out that I can replace?

Sounds like the car's knacked - you should just give it back to the previous owner


Or you could just give the pivot bush a squirt with silicone spray (not WD 40)

Although if it's sticking, the clutch trunnion could be well on it's way out. It wears through (it's nylon) then the clutch pedal itself starts to wear.

Bitch of a job to replace (just because you're upside down in a footwell, mind you) but better to do it right for a few quid than have to replace pedals & stuff....

I need to get round to doing this too... I glossed over the problem with some GT85 last year but it has resurfaced

You think that's funny - you should see me trace wires inside the scuttle panel of the caterham

Got a clutch trunnion kit here somewhere, I looked at doing it and decided not to bother.. I just readjusted the clutch master cylinder as per the workshop manual and it stopped.

If anyone wants the kit then drop me a line, yours for postage and a donation.

Likewise, may fit it one day...........

N1 started the squeaking years ago, then actually sticking, but I have kept it going with the occasional squirt of silicone. As Mac says, do not use WD 40. N3 is also now at it.

Make sure that you get it right up at the top where the fulcrum is, not part way down the pedal where the cable attaches.

I also have this problem , creaking pedal. very irritating, that kit sounds good thoough.

Great writeup on replacing with improved parts. Pig of a job of course.

I've had a squeaky pedal for about 3 years, and my treatment is also a good lashing of GT85 - not WD40 - about once a year. Does the trick but about due now in fact, and the thought of the gymnastics & back pain means I do keep putting it off!

I will add the upgrade kit to the list of "jobs I really ought to do but can never seem to get around to"
