Immobiliser-Update

Hello,
Has anyone any experience of their immobiliser failing. Mine packed in after my flat battery was restarted by the AA. It's always been a bit iffy sometimes requiring 20 presses to get it off. The battery has since been replaced but still no joy

. Anyway Murrays are quoting 700 to get the system replaced
Also does anyone know if AA parts and Labour would cover this (up to £500 obviously)
Cheers
Ron

It's free to bypass it
They do seem to fail - no idea why - useless bloody things!!
AA might cover it if you first "drive" somewhere, then "break down" ...
Cheers,
Robin

Thanks,
I had thought about that but according to Ali it will mean the light on the stack will flash constantly. Any ideas how to solve that one?

The light on the stack is controlled by the alarm unit I think - is that working or not? If the alarm and immobiliser are gubbed you can just rip the whole lot out and throw it in the bin ... if the alarm still works, I would expect it to clear the light on the dash, though the wiring diagrams are a bit vague in this area.

Try AA parts and labour first, you have nothing to lose, its an electronic system failure or similar, so should be covered.
DON'T pay £700 for something you do not really need. As Robin says, on S1's just bypass the whole system, both my cars start directly off the key. I appreciate that it is different for the newer cars, but probably still just ##################

My light is knacked too. Flashes constantly. You don't want that. It's driving me mental now.
(In my case Dan sratched his head, couldn't find a fault. Reckoned it was possibly caused by a voltage peak, maybe a jump start, and the only solution was a replacement stack. I let the matter drop at the time unfortunately- 'twas knacked in the care of a dealer- not realising how much a replacement cost

)
You could always try for a second-hand one. They come up on e-bay relatively regularly, for far less than £700.
Although I bags the first one
Edit: A bit of chewing gum works short-term

Guys,
The alarm wasn't working either so Ali thought the whole system would need replaced. Personally i hate immobilisers, they're a pain in the a**e, and i never used to use my alarm but i'm thinking about resale and i really can't live with that god awful flashing. I've tried the black tape option but it messes with my feng shui
Update for you. Murrays phoned earlier and shock horror i think they may have fixed it without having to replace it. I may have spoken too soon but if so i'll be over the moon.
Tut, the suzuki service manager (

) seems ok and said he'll try his best to get it covered by the AA. Fingers crossed.
Ron
P.S. I bet i've totally gone and jinxed myself

Sounds promising....
Ron, if there is a fix I'd be interested to know how...

Well spotted Shug.
Easy to forget that we are not all family on here, and that anybody can read.

YES! I did jinx myself.
Apparently no, they can't fix it and it will require a complete new alarm/immobiliser unit which will cost
The chap at Murrays is going to phone AA today (aye right, will probably hear next week) to see if they will cover £500 of the cost. If they say no i will take the car back as is, buy a larini and stick a scotland sticker over the annoying flashing light
Maybe if i had replaced the battery sooner none of this would have happened.

Finally Murrays called the AA and amazingly they said they would cover £475 of the cost
So the cost to me for a new system will be £150 ish. I can deal with that!
Another

for AA parts and labour cover.
