Scottish Elises

Well, picked up the Elise last night and WOW!!!!! Feel totally at home driving it already in the 40 miles I coverd in the dark!

One thing - Where's the brake light switch, Dad noticed following me home they didn;t work, and I;ve checked the fuse. tried the "Lotus position" for the first time to look at tghe pedals, but didn't spot any wires. I'll be giving it a good checking out on Sat, but any clues??

Also, I knew the passenger's window was a bit wonky, will I need to buy new runners / window clips/brackets (because they break) or will i be able to glue it back together as a temp fix?

Only other thing is that the MOT advisory sheet mentioned slight play in a front wheel bearing, can these be adjusted?

Other than that I'm TOTALLY impressed with my standard S1!!!

The wheel bearing is a simple replacement, new one is around £20, but it is a garage job as it needs to be pressed out then in.

Robin did my brake light adjustment when I had the same problem so someone will put you staright on that.

Window is a common problem. Take off the panel, and as the window has not come out of the clips yet, have a look around and see if you can trace what is causing the problem, ie as simple as loose bolts. At the worse it would be three new nylon clips and a re-glue.

ps alternative of course is to hand it over to Ali for the wheel bearing and let him check the car over, and sort out the other two probs at the same time.

Got an 8 ton press at Dad's workshop, so able to use that for the wheel bearing.

If the brake light switch is likely to just need adjusted, I'm sure I can manage that too. Having totally rebuilt a few Minis, these little things aren't going to beat me

The "Lotus position" is commonly used on Minis aswell to access brake / clutch pedal clvis pins, so just need an alteration, rather than learning it

Brake light switch is accessed from under the bonnet, it passes through the bulkhead to bear on the pedal. The body is serrated so you can adjust it in/out to find the correct point for the lights to operate. It's tucked right up under the clam but you can easily get your hand in to adjust it or take it out for replacement.

Well, popped in to see Ali on Friday, got a couple of pointers and fixed the brake lights by cleaning the switch and readjusting.

Also fixed the window, all 3 clips were detached fom the glass, so put them back on with Araldite, as that's what I had to hand. Think I'll order 3 new clips and get some pukka windscreen glue though!

Also started modifying the car - The stadard air intake trunking was peroshed an split, so got rid of tht and got a bigger bit of trunking (Mini heater trunking) straight into the airbox

Going to get Ali to service it and check it over at the end of the month.

All good, apart for leaving it outside just now with the roof off, was sunny when I left it, but p-ing it down 10 minutes later!

You need a shower cape ignoring last year... despite my car being my daily drive and left outside (driveway), I never had the roof on for about 5 months during the previous two years thanks to the shower cape! God I can't wait for those mornings of driving to work with the roof off... for a non coffee drinker I doubt there's anything that can waken you up like that!

P.S. if you decide to go for one you want an Elemental, the others are only slightly cheaper but are terribly made by comparison. My Elise parts one is now in shreds so bought an Elemental one, which actually fits the car and is ace!

There is what I think is a shower cape with the car, but some of the elastic is broken, and not figured out how to fit it yet
