111R heatshield gubbed
The metal that bolt is supposed to use to hold both sections together has rotted away again, leaving the whole thing to clang like a bugger. If I decide to replace it again, this will be the 3rd one. It can't just be me, so I assume that some of you must be running without one now? Is it worth taking it off, or should I replace it.
The last one was only put on about a year ago, but the car is now out of warranty so I'm not sure what kind of cost is inolved or how labour intensive the job is. I took the rear wheel off today, and it looks like you'd need to take the rear grill out too. Easy to remove/replace myself?

If it's just a bolt that is failing why not simply replace it with a stainless steel one ?
It's hardly structural so stainless will be fine . . . and it will never corrode . . .

X7LDA; your S2 was a K powered car was it not? Are the heatshields not different?
Bada bing, your welcome to pop round to Symington and I'll have a look/ fit a decent quality bolt in place of whatever's missing.

It's not the bolt that's goes (although swapping it for a stainless one would probably help), it's the metal round about it that the bolt holds onto. I think maybe drilling a small flat piece of metal and bolting that will be enough to clamp both pieces together.fd wrote:If it's just a bolt that is failing why not simply replace it with a stainless steel one ?

Ok, it's f**king away again. Does anyone know how costly it'd be to buy a new heatshield and have it sent to the house? I can probably get my local mechanic to fit it, assuming it's reasonably straight forward.
