Heater

Post by craigs135s » Sat Mar 29, 2008 11:31 pm

Tonight when coming home my heater started to make a vibrating noise when it was on full. Any ideas why this would be?

Cheers

It's knackered? :leave

Could be the blower spindle off balance due to crud or a worn out bearing... Could be that its not secured properly and is vibrating in its housing too I guess... Dont know really, but the blower is the place i'd start looking :thumbsup

from time to time the fan on mine sounds like its rubbing against the casing, me and ali looked at it the other day - looks a bit corroded down there.

does it sound like that? ie does the noise get faster as you put the fan up higher?

i dont know what the access is like for the exige, but id take off the silver hose which is connected to the fan and have a look to see if anything is touching it.

My guess would be the blower spindle bearing is worn out, causing havoc for the motor bushes & hence the burning smell...

Probably a new enclosure from lotus, unless you can source a new blower and modify the housing to take it :?

As for how easy it is to get to....well.....
lotus service manual wrote:
1. Remove the front clamshell

2. Remove the trunking between fan blower and distribution unit. Remove washer bottle

3. Drain coolant and disconnect the two water hoses from the heater unit

4. Disconnect the electrical harness from the resistor block and fan motor.

5 Release the two M6 fixings securing the heater unit to the chassis footwell crossmember and withdraw the unit from the chassis.
Not exactly a piece of cake
