Heater fan

Anyone know what causes the heater fan to stop working on one speed setting (the slowest) on an S2?
Mine seems to be working in the following order:
in between nothing and 1 = fastest airflow
1 = nothing
2 = what 1 used to be
3 = what 2 used to be

Don't know if K-series and Toyota-engined are different, but on my old Elise, position 2 went first if I remember correctly. MMC said it was water getting into the fan unit. It started as intermittent problems like yours then it just stopped working all together. They replaced with a new unit and then were instructed by Lotus to drill holes in the bottom of it for the water to drain out.

this may sound stupid but, what if you turn it to "4" has the switch slipped round ?

Probably a resistor pack fault, typically caused by corrosion, assuming this happened spontaneously, rather than after someone took it to bits and put it back together wrong.

Cheers,
Robin

Yup, following hot on the heels of my wiper motor failing due to corrosion.
Assuming it is the resistor pack, easy fix or pain in the arse?

It doesn't shift past the third position.

Pretty sure its a case of unplug gubbed resistor, plug in new one, jobs a carrot. The PITA is it's a clam off to reach the bloody thing.

You can buy a modified resistor kit from Lotus with the resistor inside the heater matrix on the riveted plate, this is meant to stop the problem from happening again. I don't know how much they are compared to the standard one though. I've also read about drilling drainage holes but I don't know if that's necessary with the revised resistor.

Simon, I think I mentioned a few weeks back that my Exige has suffered the same problem. I'm going to fix it myself at some point so if you'd like a hand then give me a shout as I'd like to see what's involved first. Especially considering I'll be attacking it with the worlds worst tool collection and ladyboy Dunbar as my next to useless assistant.

Unfekin believable :shock: not only does he want to experiment with his soft girls hands on Simons car first, he then calls me his assistant! Me a border-line, F1 skilled* engineer. Some people.... offer an inch an they take a mile!
Hard to argue w the ladyboy comment.

I think I do remember Vicki saying you had the worlds worst tool collection tho! :damnfunny
