Central Locking Knackered....

Post by Neil72 » Sun Apr 13, 2008 6:37 pm

Had to phone Europ Assistance to come and break into my car in Pitlochry yesterday - the remote fob locked the car but then wouldn't unlock it. I also discovered for the first time that inserting the key into either lock and trying to unlock it that way has no effect at all if you have locked the car using the fob.

Every 2nd push of the button it tried to re-lock the car and it was knocking the immobiliser off, but the 'unlock' function done nothing.

Has anyone experienced this before ? Is it something as simple as an actuator or could it be more sinister ? It's still under warranty so I'll be booking it into MMC this week but it would be useful to have some background knowledge before I phone them up.

Oh and it probably comes as no surprise that it was laughably easy to break into.....must have taken the guy all of 20 seconds

Mine did something similar last year...made unlocking noise.......but didn't unlock.
Turns out it is a common part that fries itself.....
Fixed under warranty

The first thing the breakdown guy done was hook a booster onto the battery but that didn't make any difference. How old was your battery when you had it replaced ?

Mine is just over 2 yrs old and it's kept on a permanent trickle charge.....surely it won't be shot already ?
