snapped track control arm

Post by steve2008 » Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:03 pm

this morning as i was driving slow today and taken my vx to work and suddenly after exiting a roundabout the rear swings right out with out any notice and i manage to catch it perfectly, i thought it was just the cold surface and cold tyres but soon as i enter the motorway I was totally wrong, my control arm loose and when i hit a small bump on the road the back right wheel would move all over the place and shake the whole car as if i was fish tailing all over my lane. luckily i slammed on the brakes and pulled in to the hard shoulder and had a look there it was dangling there still connected to the hub side. Suicidily i drove the car back to the house at like 20mph on the M8 and down quiet roads scared that my wheel might just fall off at any point. Anyway i got home and jacked the car up had a look and the bolt was snapped off clean as if it hit a nasty pot hole or something. i managed to get a drill half way through the broken bolt which has taken a couple hours and still going...........

Need to order the whole tracking arm and get the alignment sorted out as soon as possible and also check the whole suspension all over the poor vx :(

has anyone else suffered from this type of incident?

anyone selling any centre braces to connect the to arms together?

Which bolt has failed? The one that goes through the subframe or the one that goes through the eye on the upright?

If it's gone through the subframe you need to check carefully that the hole in the subframe hasn't ovalised.

I think the S2 Exige has a cross brace. But I think the Toyota subframe and wishbones are different enough from the VX setup that the brace won't fit.

Cheers,

Mine decided to go following Tut on TT 2005. Never got the stain out of the driver's seat...
