The sound of music...

Post by Sassy » Fri Mar 10, 2006 11:31 am

Right, I've already been told it's better to listen to the music of the engine, but there's still the odd time a girl wants to crank up a bit of Barbie Girl* at the traffic lights...

So, has anyone done anything to the stereo/speakers? And how to upgrade it with minimal disruption? I don't want to bolt anything to anything, or have too many extra boxes or wires hanging about, but:

1. Do I need an interface box to get the ipod working with the Blau Woodstock? A friend has an Alpine, but needed a fairly large interface to get the pod working with it. Is it possible just to have a wire without a clumsy box half way along it?

2. The MMC card - apparently this is the same as the thing in my phone. So is this a better idea than trying to connect up an ipod? Just put a whole load of songs on the MMC and slot it in the stereo?

3. Speakers - I don't want everything pulled out and messed about with as inevitably things don't slot back in as neatly as the factory install, but I would like slightly more capable speakers. Are there any reasonably priced, but better ones that fit straight into the existing holes?

*joke. Honest.

1) I ordered one of these on Wednesday (and it arrived this morning) http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin2.asp
7 quid and job done. They also do a version that has the box and allows for control via the H.U. but its 70notes.

2)A MMC size card big enough will cost more than the 7 quid for that cable, so I wouldnt bother.

3) As for speakers, a mate of mine fitted Focal components to his S2 and they slot straight in and sound better than the standard ones.

So can you (as in I) fit that wire your(my)self? And would it just hang down the back of the stereo?

Yes,it plugs into the DAB54 and you select AUX1 by pressing the far left button on the HU.. But having done it in my S1 the feeding of the wire through the dash is difficult. I am going to feed mine through the dash so it pops out in the shelf bit, and I can then jam the ipod into the shelf so it sits vertically in its rubbery cover.

I'm getting some 2GB SD cards in shortly from the manufacturer in Korea. I'll post a deal for SE'ers. :D

I've also got the Aux to 3.5mm lead. Best way to do it for next to nothing.

Haven't played around with the speakers yet though.

If you want an ipod interface, have a look at the Dension icelink, which connects through the radio input. Personally though I would't bother.

Can the DAB 54 read a 2GB card?
Sure the older DAB53 can only see 256Meg
May be worth making sure of before getting a load of cards.

HI Sanjoy

I've got the blaupunkt unit in mine and use the aux connection to 3.5mm jack. Ideal for all mp3 players :D

Ideal for me, as I usually pinch the one that my shop team have loaded with the most tunes!

Gutted, just wrote a monster reply and my system timed out and lost it!

Still probably would have sent you to sleep anyway. :D

I've checked the manual for the Dab 53 and it can only record (from Dab) on to a 256mb card. The other limitation applies to file playback which is retsricted to 256kbps. Quite why they did that is beyond me.

As for the card though no stipulations apart from not going over 20 directories or 200 files, which would imply that they haven't set a limit on cards.

I'll take a 1GB card home tonight and try it out if I have time. :P

2GB cards I'm bringing in anyway, and am also trying to get hold of 4Gb cards.

I'll let you know how I fair.

Don't want to tread on anyones toes but I found: http://www.euronetwork.co.uk/ for cables and accessories
to be brilliant. Very reasonably(ie cheap) priced, superfast delivery, and general all round legends.
Personally I'm sick of being screwed around by online parts companies so I like using word of mouth rather than google.

One more tip. Stay away from: http://www.espares.co.uk/ at all costs. They are truly SH*TE!! :chainsaw :flame

Right, rant over.
