Ok... so since the new clutch was fitted last week or so, going from 2nd to 3rd at max revs, even with the clutch pedal to the floor, it grinds a wee bit.
No other gear does it, going up or down.
Can someone explain what may be happening, bearing in mind I don't really have much of a clue about the internal workings of a gearbox!
Cheers,
Dave.

Assuming the clutch is actually working OK and not dragging . . .
Sounds like the 3rd gear synchromesh is weak/worn . . . the synchromesh is the bit that stops is grinding when you change gear . . . by SYNCROnising the input/output shaft speeds so that the engagement dogs can MESH without grinding . . .
Unless you can find someone to recon the gearbox it's a gonner . . .
Did it do this before you had the clutch changed ?

there is a bloke in paisley near the fire station and the vets
sorry I can't explain it better.
he did some work on my clio gearbox, replaced a bearing and repaired my dodgy assembly attempt for £30

Don't know anything about the guy, but I do know Paisley.
You're talking about Canal St - is it the garage before the fire station, assuming you're on the same side of the road - think it used to have yellow & black signage.

Gearbox was 100% working before the clutch change even when getting the rough love treatment at Donny.....
Only grinds at pretty much max revs.... under 6k etc, working fine..
The weekend was the first time I used it and all that's changed is the clutch.... so hoping it's that. Just bought a new bracket to stop the slave cylinder moving so much too....
Cheers,
Dave.

If it was a problem with the clutch it would crunch between all gears. Weak synchro sounds like the culprit.

That makes sense.... just seems too big a coincidence that it started happening when the clutch was changed..... or is that just me??

...so would this type of problem fall under the AA parts and labour cover, or is it wear and tear?

does sound like a weak syncro and the boxes are easy to strip but for cost they are quite cheap o source s/hand theres a 19000ml cr box for sale on seloc at present
if your going to carry on usung yours check who ever fitted the clutch did not damage the drive shaft seals and you have oil in there and at the right level also its a special oil for the pg1 wrong oil will cause problems

Think I'll check the gearbox oil etc. before spending more money on the car......
If the gearbox is fecked.... then the standard one will be going back on until such time as funding allows for repair/replacement of the CR one I guess....

Nizzy has told me about the Paisly place in the past, he had already stripped the box to bits, couldn't figure it out and handed it to the Paisly guy who had it together by the time Nizzy was back down the road, all for £30 inc parts as above. Got to be worth a shot on the CR box
if it is indeed fooked over the cost of a new box.
